€800 to €1,050 a Month Vienna Law Fellowship

The Faculty of Law at the University of Vienna is offering research fellowships for international researchers to spend part of the summer term 2027 at its faculty in Vienna. Doctoral and postdoctoral researchers can apply for a Junior Fellowship paying EUR 800 a month, and professors for a Senior Fellowship paying EUR 1,050 a month. Only four fellowships are on offer, two in each category.

What you get:

• Junior Fellowship (doctoral and postdoctoral researchers): EUR 800 per month
• Senior Fellowship (professors): EUR 1,050 per month
• Research stay of two weeks to three months (postdocs, professors) or one to three months (doctoral researchers)
• Supervision by a member of the Faculty of Law

What you'll do:

• Pursue your own research project aligned with one of the faculty's research priorities
• Collaborate with your host supervisor and faculty members in Vienna

Key dates:

• Applications open: November 1, 2026
• Applications close: November 30, 2026 (inclusive)
• Selection decisions: December 2026
• Fellowship period: summer term 2027

• Researcher affiliated with a university outside Austria
• Must not be employed by the University of Vienna now or at any time in the last six months, whether the post was funded from the university's own budget or third-party funds
• Junior Fellowships are for doctoral and postdoctoral researchers; Senior Fellowships are for professors
• A research project that fits one or more of the Faculty of Law's research priorities
• A signed supervision agreement from a university professor, habilitated staff member, associate professor or assistant professor at the Vienna Faculty of Law, secured before you apply
• Completed application form, letter of application (max three pages) and CV (max three pages); postdocs and professors list their five key publications
• PhD students: a letter of recommendation from their current supervisor at their home university
