The Foundation is looking for women who will go home to teach, research, start a STEM venture or shape policy, and who already encourage girls into science. **What you get:** - Up to USD 50,000 a year, based on your actual costs: university tuition and bench fees, accommodation, and a living allowance covering food, books and supplies, medical insurance, childcare and transport - A budget for your first trip to the host country, visa charges and conference expenses - A grant for one academic year at a time, renewable each year depending on your academic progress, your references (one must come from your host supervisor) and the Foundation's renewal review - A possible extra childcare grant, at the Foundation's discretion: up to USD 3,000 a year per child under 6 and up to USD 1,500 per child aged 6 to 15, capped at USD 10,000 a year - A place in the global community of Faculty for the Future Fellows, which has now funded 1,000 women **What you'll do:** - Do a PhD in a STEM field at a well-ranked university or research institute outside your home country (a sandwich programme counts if the university abroad awards the degree, alone or jointly) - Keep active links with universities or institutions at home, and show concrete steps towards returning as you near graduation - Go home after your studies to teach or research in a STEM faculty, build a STEM venture, or support evidence-based STEM policy **Key dates:** - Applications opened 1 September 2026 - Applications close 7 November 2026 at 12:00 noon Central Standard Time (UTC-6), which is 18:00 UTC - Reference letters due 14 November 2026 - Results expected at the end of March or in early April 2027 - Grants awarded in 2027 are valid until spring 2028, by which time your studies must have started **More information:** - Full eligibility criteria and the list of eligible countries are on the Foundation's Application Criteria page - You apply only through the Foundation's online application site, where you register an account first; your referees are emailed automatically once you submit - The Foundation especially wants applicants in physical sciences, engineering, computer science and mathematics, and says awards in the biological sciences are limited - Selection runs through several review rounds and ends with a telephone interview with members of the Foundation's Board and executive management - Answers to common questions are in the Foundation's FAQ
