The Fortis Society is a lifelong network of leaders from low-income and first-generation backgrounds, run by the Future Leaders Foundation, a US nonprofit founded in 2014. The Fortis Fellowship is the only way in: about 15 people a year spend five months with a mentor and their cohort, then travel to Medellín, Colombia in June 2027 for a cohort retreat and the Society's annual Summit, and become members for life. It costs nothing to apply, and Fortis says the fellowship itself costs fellows nothing. **What you get:** - One-to-one mentorship with a Fortis member - Five months of virtual trainings, brain trusts and introductions across sectors and continents - A two-day cohort retreat and the Fortis Summit in Medellín, Colombia, 8 to 13 June 2027, with the cohort days and the Summit funded - Lifelong membership of the Fortis Society after the fellowship **What you'll do:** - Join 2 to 4 hours a month of virtual sessions and mentorship from January to June 2027 - Work on projects that put what you are learning into practice - Travel to Medellín for the cohort retreat and the Summit, where you are welcomed in as a member **Key dates:** - Applications close 8 November 2026 at 11:59pm in your local time zone - Interviews for shortlisted candidates: November to December 2026 - Decisions: by the end of January 2027 - Virtual fellowship: January to June 2027 - Travel to Colombia: 8 to 13 June 2027, cohort retreat then the Summit in Medellín **More information:** - Questions go to info@fortissociety.org - The application asks for a resume or portfolio, three short written answers, a two-minute video and, if shortlisted, a virtual interview. Fortis says it takes most people two to three hours - Nominations from members and peer organisations are welcome but do not replace an application
