About this opportunity

CRASSH, the University of Cambridge's centre for research in the arts, social sciences and humanities, funds up to three established scholars from the Global South each year to spend a term in Cambridge working on their own research. For the 2028 fellowships CRASSH is partnering with the Faculty of Music on the theme Musical Bodies and Ecologies, and applications are open to any discipline in the arts, humanities and social sciences that responds to it.

What you get:

  • Return economy travel from your home institution, in line with the University's travel policy
  • The cost of a visa, if you need one
  • Single ensuite accommodation at Wolfson College, booked and paid for by CRASSH, with the college membership fee waived
  • A subsistence allowance of £175 per week towards food and local travel
  • Desk space and computer access at CRASSH, and full access to the University's libraries, collections and academic events
  • A nine-month digital fellowship after your stay, with continued access to the University's online events and resources

What you'll do:

  • Live in Cambridge for Lent Term 2028, a minimum of nine weeks and up to twelve if you wish
  • Work on your own research project and take part in CRASSH's Research Practice seminar
  • Present your work at a relevant Cambridge faculty
  • Design and run a roundtable event on the theme with the other Fellows, with some preparation online before you arrive

Key dates:

  • Applications close 22 January 2027 at 12:00 midday UTC
  • Results communicated to all applicants before the end of March 2027
  • Fellowship runs in Lent Term 2028, mid-January to mid-March
