The United Nations Information Service in Vienna runs a virtual Shadowing Programme each year to mark United Nations Day. Master's and PhD students get a one-hour virtual encounter with a staff member at a Vienna-based UN organisation, such as the IAEA, UNODC or UNIDO, plus a virtual career workshop. The 2026 edition runs online from 24 October to 24 November. **What you get:** - A one-hour virtual encounter with a staff member at a Vienna-based UN organisation - A place in a virtual career workshop - Insight into day-to-day work at one of the UN's four headquarters locations **What you'll do:** - Choose one participating organisation to shadow: IAEA, CTBTO, UNODC, UNODA, UNIDO, UNIS Vienna, ICPDR or UNSCEAR - Meet a staff member online for one hour between 24 October and 24 November 2026 - Join the virtual career workshop **Key dates:** - Applications open 14 September 2026 - Applications close 27 September 2026 - Programme runs virtually 24 October to 24 November 2026 **More information:** - Apply by emailing the organisation you want to shadow, using the address listed for it on the UNIS Vienna page. You can apply to one organisation only. - Your email needs your name, nationality, telephone number, email address, university, field of study, whether you are in a Master's or PhD programme, your field of interest, the organisation you want to shadow, whether and when you took part before, and what you hope to get out of it in 50 words or fewer. - Places are limited, so UNIS encourages early applications. Incomplete and duplicate applications are not considered. - You may be placed with a different organisation than the one you chose, depending on availability. - Selected students are contacted by email after all registrations are collected. The programme is not part of any recruitment process.
