Girl Child Art Foundation, a nonprofit registered in Nigeria, runs a free three month mentorship for early career African women artists. Each mentee is matched with an established artist for one to one sessions online and in person, plus group practical sessions at the GCAF studios in Lagos. The 2026 to 2027 cycle focuses on painting, textile and fibre, ceramics, drawing, printmaking and sculpture. **What you get:** - One to one mentoring from a professional artist with at least ten years of practice - Support with critiques, skills development, artist statements, documentation of work and grant writing - Help developing proposals for exhibitions in public galleries, plus networking and budgeting advice - A place in a free programme: GCAF states the programme is free for mentees **What you'll do:** - Meet your mentor regularly over three months, January to March, online and in person - Join group sessions, including a final in person practical block at the GCAF studios in Lagos - Commit a significant share of your time to your studio practice and keep every appointment - Take part in exhibitions and, sometimes, community events **Key dates:** - Applications close October 30, 2026 - Results about one month after the deadline; GCAF matches mentors with artists in November - Programme runs for 3 months, January to March, not counting the exhibition period **More information:** - Apply by email to the address on the GCAF programme page, with a letter of application (max 2 pages), 10 images or short videos with an annotated list, one reference letter, and a website link or CV (max 2 pages) - GCAF holds online and in person information sessions at its Lagos studio
