About this opportunity

i4Policy, working with GIZ, is inviting civil society organisations from across Africa to join Positioning Labs, a six-month programme where organisations build shared regional positions on AI governance and take them to national and regional policymakers. There are two cohorts: AI Regulation and Accountability, and Minimizing AI Risks. Organisations working on labour rights, environmental justice, language and culture or data governance are welcome even if AI is not yet part of their mission.

What you get:

  • Nine facilitated sessions, about 19 hours in total, including three capacity-building sessions on AI governance
  • A shared Policy Brief and dedicated advocacy materials for your cohort
  • Connections to other organisations, networks and regional and global policy spaces
  • A certificate of participation and a chance to represent your cohort in regional and global fora

What you'll do:

  • Work with other African CSOs in your cohort to agree shared priorities and common positions on AI governance
  • Turn those positions into an advocacy strategy and present them to the programme's Advisory Board
  • Take part in the delivery phase, engaging national and regional policy processes in May 2027

Key dates:

  • Applications close 25 November 2026, 17:00 SAST
  • Co-creation phase: December 2026 to February 2027
  • Delivery phase: May 2027

More information:

  • Full Terms of Reference (PDF) on the i4Policy opportunities page
  • English is the main working language; the form asks whether you also work in French or Portuguese
  • Questions: community@i4policy.org
