YIP Public Policy Fellowship (Winter 2027)

The Institute for Youth in Policy, a youth-led nonpartisan nonprofit, runs a free two-month virtual fellowship where US high school and undergraduate students learn how public policy is made and build their own policy capstone. Fellows meet twice a week online, hear from policy speakers, write and present an original policy brief, and work with mentors from across YIP. More than 1,500 fellows have graduated, and the Winter 2027 cohort runs from January 16 to March 20. **What you get:** - A free place in a two-month virtual policy programme (no stipend is paid) - Ongoing mentorship from YIP department executives and peers - Two guest speaker sessions per cohort with policy experts; recent speakers include Ned Price and Elizabeth Goitein - Your capstone project published on YIP's website - Priority consideration for hiring into YIP's own leadership after you graduate **What you'll do:** - Attend two 1.5 hour live sessions a week, Wednesdays at 5pm PT and Saturdays at 9am PT - Take part in seminars, debates and workshops on policy analysis, communication and project management - Write and present an original policy brief with your peers - Build an individual capstone project from week two to the end of the programme - Attend at least 80 percent of sessions and complete all assignments to graduate **Key dates:** - Winter 2027 applications close December 23, 2026 at 11:59pm PST - Decisions released January 6, 2027 - Winter cohort runs January 16 to March 20, 2027 - Later 2027 cohorts: Spring (April 3 to June 9, apply by March 10), Summer (June 19 to August 21, apply by May 26), Fall (September 11 to November 13, apply by August 18) **More information:** - Questions go to fellowship@yipinstitute.org - Past fellows' capstones are on yipinstitute.org/capstones
