The Faculty of Social Sciences at the University of Hong Kong invites university faculty from the Global South to spend one to three months in Hong Kong as visiting fellows. Fellows work with a host academic at HKU on joint research and take part in seminars, lectures and exchange activities across the Faculty. Up to 10 fellows are selected each academic year, and this round is for visits starting from March 2027. **What you get:** - Economy class return air tickets of up to HK$10,000, reimbursed - A per-diem allowance of HK$1,500 a day for the whole stay in Hong Kong, which must also cover your accommodation - Your visa application fee, reimbursed - A visiting professorship appointment at a grade equivalent to your current position, with the title Global South Fellow - Shared office space and access to HKU libraries, IT services and computer labs **What you'll do:** - Visit HKU for one to three months in the spring semester (February to June) or fall semester (September to January) - Carry out collaborative research with your Faculty Associate leading to at least one co-authored publication within a year of the visit - Join seminars, lectures, networking events and teaching or training sessions for HKU students - Submit a completion report within 3 months after the visit **Key dates:** - Call for applications: October 2026 - Applications close: November 22, 2026 (Hong Kong time) - Results announced: by the end of December 2026 - Visits start: March 2027 or later **More information:** - Before applying you must find an HKU Faculty of Social Sciences academic (Assistant Professor or above) to act as your Faculty Associate and get their written consent; the Faculty publishes a list of staff willing to host - Eligible Global South countries are listed in the Faculty's PDF of 138 countries, based on the TWAS developing countries list - The fellowship covers only your own costs; family members' costs and any accommodation above the per-diem are yours - You must obtain a Hong Kong employment visa before arriving - Enquiries: fossres@hku.hk
