Waterfront Alliance, the New York nonprofit working on the city's waterfronts and coastal resilience, runs a 16 week hands-on training and career programme for New York City young adults aged 17 to 24. Fellows learn how the city prepares for flooding and climate change from the people doing the work, visit real resilience projects, and train for the WEDG Associate credential, with the training and exam paid for. No prior experience in climate, planning or environmental work is needed. **What you get:** - WEDG (Waterfront Edge Design Guidelines) Associate training and exam preparation, with all training and exam costs covered - The chance to earn the nationally recognised WEDG Associate credential - A $700 stipend on successfully completing the WEDG Associate exam - OMNY transit cards to cover travel - Food at all in-person sessions - Mentorship, career exploration and connections to internships, apprenticeships and jobs in the climate resilience sector **What you'll do:** - Take part in workshops, field experiences and professional development, about 6 to 8 hours a week for 16 weeks - Visit and assess real resilience projects across New York City, including green infrastructure, shorelines, marshes, parks and waterfront sites - Learn how climate resilience projects are planned, evaluated and communicated - Develop creative, community-centred projects that help residents understand and respond to climate challenges - Meet professionals, employers and organisations working in climate resilience **Key dates:** - Applications close October 31, 2026 - Fellowship runs January 2027 to April 2027, Tuesday and Thursday evenings **More information:** - Hybrid format: virtual and in-person sessions, in-person location to be confirmed - Some sessions may fall on evenings or weekends - Apply through the application form linked on Waterfront Alliance's Education page
