Innovation is changing the way food is produced, processed, traded and consumed and building more efficient, inclusive, resilient and sustainable agrifood systems.

The FAO Award for Innovation recognizes ground-breaking innovations in areas under FAO’s mandate to Members or non-state partners, including institutions, individuals, international/regional organizations, academic or research entities, civil society groups, private sector entities and FAO employees.

Award Criteria:

Impact across multiple levels of the supply chain (farmers to consumers).
Strengthening farmer–consumer links (e.g., sustainability tracking, innovative mechanisms).
Quality and merit of innovation.
Potential benefit, impact, and sustainability.
Scalability and value for money.
Role of youth, women, and marginalized groups.

Nature of the Award:

A scroll describing the recipient's achievements and/or award,
A cash prize of USD 10 000

Who can apply

Open to institutions, individuals, organizations, academic/research entities, civil society groups, private sector actors, and FAO employees.
Must demonstrate remarkable achievements in food and agriculture innovation during the biennium preceding the current one.
Must show impact across supply chains, scalability, and sustainability.
Strong consideration for innovations involving youth, women, and marginalized groups.
Nominations must be submitted through FAO Representatives or Regional/Subregional offices
