Polyfoni, an Oslo non-profit that brings Global South social science into AI development, is running the pilot cohort of its Social Sciences for AI Fellowship. Over four months, part-time and fully remote, fellows run a cultural audit of a real AI product in a region they know from their own fieldwork, working out where the product's built-in assumptions break. The finished audit is published under the fellow's name. **What you get:** - Two mentors: an academic collaborator and an AI industry professional, matched to your region and sector - Training in Polyfoni's Cultural Audit Method - Online masterclasses on AI governance and on moving from academia into industry, run with partner AI Mission Lab - Monthly group sessions with the other fellows, with guest input from AI industry practitioners - Your audit published under your name on Polyfoni's site and in Making AI Listen, an open access publication **What you'll do:** - Choose an AI product deployed in a region you know, such as a health chatbot in East Africa or a language model in a non-English-dominant market - Map the assumptions it makes about that context, identify where they fail, rate how severe the failures are and recommend fixes - Write it up as a report for a product team - Commit about 5 hours a week, remotely, from November 2026 **Key dates:** - Applications close October 15, 2026 (reviewed on a rolling basis) - Fellowship runs November 2026 to March 2027 **More information:** - Questions go to contact@polyfoni.no
