About this opportunity

Halton Region, the regional government for Burlington, Halton Hills, Milton and Oakville in Ontario, funds non-profit human service programmes that improve the health, safety and well-being of Halton residents. The 2027 intake is open now and offers two streams: one-year grants of up to $30,000 for short-term, small capital or innovative projects, and multi-year grants of up to three years with no set maximum for registered charities. Collaborative proposals between organisations are encouraged.

What you'll do:

Deliver a human service programme or initiative that serves Halton residents and supports one or more Community Safety and Well-Being objectives: health, safety or well-being
Set measurable objectives, defined outcomes and an evaluation plan, backed by programme, population or community data showing need
Report back to Halton Region under a funding agreement, expected to begin in April 2027

Who can apply

Must be an incorporated non-profit organisation; individuals and for-profit organisations are not eligible
Category Two applicants must also be registered charities under Canada's Income Tax Act
Unincorporated non-profits and community groups may apply to Category One only under the sponsorship of an eligible incorporated non-profit
Governed by an active, democratically elected volunteer board of at least three members not related by blood or marriage
Programme must serve Halton residents; organisations outside Halton are considered only if the project exclusively serves Halton residents
Programme must have a clear human service objective and support people experiencing, or susceptible to, negative health or social outcomes
Governments, hospitals, schools and school boards, libraries, police services, post-secondary institutions and municipalities are not eligible as lead applicants
One application per category; the two applications cannot be for the same programme
Submit online with the completed PDF application form and financial statements for the most recent fiscal year-end; total upload must not exceed 20MB
Funding cannot go to individuals as cash transfers or rent subsidies, and cannot fund scholarships, fundraising, or events focused on competitions or prizes
