About this opportunity

FOR-GHP is an 18-month training-of-trainers fellowship in outbreak management for public health professionals from sub-Saharan Africa, led by the Bernhard Nocht Institute for Tropical Medicine and the Robert Koch Institute with Swiss TPH and the African Field Epidemiology Network, and funded by the German Federal Ministry of Health. Fellows build skills in surveillance, One Health and emergency response, then design and teach case studies at their own institutions so the training spreads further.

What you'll do:

Complete seven graded eLearning modules in December 2026 as part of selection
Attend workshops in Hamburg (April 2027), Accra (October 2027) and Kampala (July 2028)
Develop a teaching case study, pilot it in Accra and then run it at your home institution
Take part in simulation exercises and a Sustainability Strengthening Initiative in the final workshop

Who can apply

Origin in and current employment in sub-Saharan Africa
At least two years of professional experience in the public health or biomedical sector, preferably in infectious disease management, prevention and control
A degree or proficiency in public health, medicine, epidemiology, microbiology, biology or an allied health science
An endorsement from your current employer on the programme's own template, releasing you for the three workshops and supporting your case study
At least one recommendation letter from a current, contactable referee (not older than three years)
Advanced English, for example IELTS 6.0, TOEFL iBT 79 to 80, native speaker, or higher education completed in English
A computer with stable internet, audio and microphone; phones and tablets are not permitted for virtual sessions
A motivation letter in English (max. 500 words), submitted with the online form
