The Max Weber Foundation, a German research foundation with humanities and social science institutes around the world, funds short research trips for doctoral candidates and postdocs once a year. You spend up to a month each in two or three countries that host its institutes, working in libraries and archives on a transnational or comparative project you choose yourself. The grant covers your return travel and a daily allowance, and adds to the funding you already have rather than replacing it. **What you get:** - Documented return travel to each host institute, cheapest route, reimbursed on receipts - A daily allowance of EUR 32 to EUR 66 depending on the host country, for up to three months in total - Where available, an affordable guest room at the host institute - Access to the Foundation's institutes in cities such as London, Paris, Rome, Warsaw, Washington, Tokyo, New Delhi, Beirut and Istanbul **What you'll do:** - Research stays of up to one month in each of two or three host countries - Work mainly in libraries and archives on a self-chosen transnational, transregional or comparative project - Complete all stays within 24 months of approval, ideally within 12 - Submit a final report within three months of the funding period ending **Key dates:** - Applications close 4 October 2026 at 23:59 (the Foundation writes CET; Germany is on summer time that day) - Selection committee expected to meet in early December 2026 - Grants can be drawn from January 2027 - All stays must be completed within 24 months of approval **More information:** - Full FAQ and funding guidelines are linked from the programme page - Questions go to feldman@maxweberstiftung.de
