About this opportunity

Environmental organisations play a central role in the fight against biodiversity loss and climate change. As they do so, they often encounter social tensions that impact their work, staff, partners and communities. Pursuing successful environmental action is especially challenging in areas where relationships between groups are strained or broken down, or where there is violence. At the same time, environmental work offers powerful entry points to foster collaboration across lines of division and contribute to social cohesion. We believe that conflict-sensitive approaches can help conservation and climate practitioners better understand and adapt to context shifts, prevent risks of fuelling tensions, and identify ways to contribute to peace through and in support of their environmental goals.

Focus: integrating conflict‑sensitive approaches into conservation, biodiversity, and climate action.

Benefits include:

Small grant up to 50,000 CHF for one phase of support
Organizational accompaniment (capacity building, coaching, peer learning)
Potential for multi‑phase support (up to three phases)

Why it matters:

Environmental work often intersects with social tensions, polarization, or violence.
Conflict‑sensitive approaches help prevent fueling tensions and foster collaboration across divisions.

Who can apply

Primary mission related to environment (conservation, biodiversity, climate)
International reach (programs in ≥5 countries)
Footprint in conflict‑affected contexts (open violence, group tensions, polarization, or post‑conflict settings)
Country offices/networks may apply if they commit to sharing learning across the organization
