The European Court of Auditors, the EU's independent auditor in Luxembourg, takes around 30 to 35 paid trainees per session for six months. Trainees join audit teams checking how EU money is spent, or work in translation, communications, legal services, IT, library and administration. Who can apply

  • Be a national of an EU member state (candidate-country nationals are not eligible for the standard traineeship)
  • Hold a degree from at least three years of university study (EQF level 6), awarded before the application deadline
  • Thorough knowledge of one official EU language and satisfactory knowledge of a second; C1 in English or French is required
  • Never have done a traineeship of more than six weeks, paid or unpaid, at any EU institution, body or agency, and never have been employed by one as temporary, contract or agency staff, seconded expert or MEP assistant
  • Positive Action Programme only: a recognised disability, with proof from a national authority or a doctor's certificate issued within the last 6 months
