The African Union Commission runs a rolling internship programme at its headquarters in Addis Ababa, across departments from Peace and Security to Women, Gender and Youth. It is aimed at final-year undergraduates, recent graduates and postgraduates who are nationals of an AU Member State. The experience is real and the institution is serious, but the money is not there: the AU states it has no financial obligation towards interns, and you pay your own travel, accommodation, living costs and insurance. What you get: ➤ Hands-on experience inside a continental intergovernmental institution ➤ Placement in one of roughly 30 AU departments and directorates ➤ Professional exposure across policy, administration, research, communications and project management ➤ Work in a multicultural environment with experienced international professionals ➤ A three-month placement, renewable once, so up to six months in total ➤ Assistance from the AU in obtaining entry and residence visas What you'll do: ➤ Provide administrative and technical support to AU programmes, projects and activities ➤ Work within an assigned department such as Political Affairs Peace and Security, Education Science Technology and Innovation, or Women Gender and Youth ➤ Apply online through the AU careers portal using the mandatory AU CV template ➤ Submit a motivation letter, academic certificates, a CV, a recommendation letter from your institution, and a copy of your passport or national ID
