DPI Safeguards Accelerator

The DPI Safeguards Accelerator is a cohort-based program that helps countries, UN entities, NGOs, and local partners turn global Digital Public Infrastructure (DPI) principles into real, working safeguards on the ground. More than 100 countries are currently rolling out large-scale digital systems like national ID platforms, payment rails, and data exchange layers, and the Accelerator exists to make sure those systems are built safely and inclusively, not just efficiently. It bridges the gap between high-level global frameworks and what actually happens during live national deployments, offering practical tools, targeted expertise, and support for multistakeholder coalitions. The program runs two application pathways: one for UN entities and one for civil society and NGOs. Both are designed to build local capacity and keep safeguards embedded as systems scale from pilots to population-level rollouts. The 2026-2028 window is treated as critical because DPI systems are transitioning fast, and getting safeguards baked in now prevents serious accountability and inclusion failures later, especially as AI-enabled public services come online. The Accelerator is being launched in collaboration with 50-in-5, the Open Government Partnership (OGP), and Co-Develop. Applications close July 30, 2026.
