The Bloomberg American Health Initiative at the Johns Hopkins Bloomberg School of Public Health gives full-tuition scholarships for a Master of Public Health (MPH) or Doctor of Public Health (DrPH) to people already working with US organisations on addiction and overdose, adolescent health, environmental challenges, food systems or violence. You stay connected to that organisation while you study, then work for it for at least one year after you graduate. You apply to the degree and to the fellowship separately, and both are due December 1, 2026. **What you get:** - Tuition and fees covered for up to 80 credits of the MPH, full-time or part-time - Tuition and fees covered for up to 70 credits of the DrPH - A stipend for MPH fellows, full-time and part-time, towards travel, books and the cost of in-person courses in Baltimore - Membership of focus-area networks of fellows, alumni, faculty and organisations, plus the annual Bloomberg American Health Summit - Seminars, speakers and other enrichment opportunities while at the School **What you'll do:** - Study for the MPH (full-time in Baltimore over 11 months, late June to late May, or part-time over two to three years while working full-time) or the mostly part-time DrPH - Complete a practicum and capstone project with your collaborating organisation, within your focus area - Take at least 5 in-person credits in Baltimore and attend the annual Bloomberg American Health Summit, usually held in November or December - Work for your collaborating organisation in your focus area for at least one year after graduating, starting within 12 months of graduation **Key dates:** - Applications opened September 1, 2026 - SOPHAS degree application and the Submittable fellowship forms are both due December 1, 2026, 11:59 PM EST - Fellowship decisions are emailed in March to applicants admitted to the degree - MPH fellows start in June 2027, with a virtual fellowship orientation in early to mid-June; DrPH fellows start in August 2027 **More information:** - Two-part application: apply to the MPH or DrPH through SOPHAS, then submit the Fellowship Applicant Form while your organisation submits a Collaborating Organization Form through Submittable - The scholarship is a grant that converts to a loan, at the Federal Direct Unsubsidized loan interest rate, if its terms are not met, including completing the degree and the one-year service obligation - The SOPHAS degree application carries its own university admission fee; see the caveats below - Offers cannot be deferred, and changing collaborating organisation after an offer or within six months of starting rescinds it
