The German Academic Exchange Service (DAAD) funds Master's degrees at 13 partner programmes in Burkina Faso, Ethiopia, Ghana, Kenya, Malawi, Rwanda, Tanzania and Uganda, for graduates from Sub-Saharan Africa. You study in your home country (In-Country) or in another Sub-Saharan African country (In-Region), in development-related fields from plant breeding and environmental health to electrical power systems and climate change. About this opportunity

Who can apply

  • National or permanent resident of a Sub-Saharan African country
  • A completed three or four year Bachelor's degree with at least Second Class Upper Division or equivalent; provisional certificates are not accepted
  • Last university degree completed no more than 6 years before applying
  • Thorough knowledge of the language of instruction
  • Not previously funded by DAAD for a Master's
  • Up to three applications are considered, and you must rank them
  • Documents: online form, tabular CV, DAAD's own letter of recommendation form, degree certificate, transcript, a 300 to 1,000 word motivation letter, and a passport or national ID; proof of admission can follow before the scholarship starts
  • You must also be admitted by the host university, which has its own requirements and deadline
