Youth Central is a registered Canadian charity in Calgary that has run leadership and volunteer programmes for 12 to 18 year olds since 1992. Five of its youth-led steering committees are recruiting for the coming school year, covering grantmaking, city advocacy, awards, publishing and volunteer leadership. These are not shadow roles: committee members decide how grant funding is distributed, research issues for the Mayor, and plan and host a city awards ceremony. **What you get:** - A seat on one of five youth-led committees: the Calgary Youth Foundation, Youth Are Awesome, the YODA Committee, the YVC Leadership Committee, or the Mayor's Youth Council - Volunteer hours on top of high school credits - Direct access to city decision makers, including working alongside the Mayor and city officials - Real decision-making power, including deciding how grant funding reaches youth initiatives across Calgary - A published portfolio of work if you write for Youth Are Awesome, supported by junior editors - Hands-on skill building in leadership, communication, teamwork and public speaking - Hybrid participation, so you can join online when you cannot get to the Calgary office **What you'll do:** - Calgary Youth Foundation: review grant applications, decide together how funds are distributed, raise funds and pitch to donors - Mayor's Youth Council: research issues affecting young people across four subcommittees, then plan events and launch initiatives - YODA Committee: encourage nominations, select award finalists, then plan, promote and host the Youth of Distinction Awards - Youth Are Awesome: write at least two articles a month on topics you care about, then edit and publish them - YVC Leadership Committee: step up as a Senior Volunteer and shape the Youth Volunteer Corps experience - Attend meetings at the Calgary office or online, and carry project tasks between meetings **Key dates:** - Calgary Youth Foundation closes 16 September 2026 - The other four committees close 21 September 2026 - Shortlisted applicants are contacted by 23 October
