About this opportunity

This fellowship enables foreign scholars from developing countries to pursue PhD‑level research in emerging areas of science and technology at CSIR laboratories and institutes in India. Fellows may either:

Sandwich Fellowship: Conduct part of their PhD research in India while registered at a home university (6 months–3 years).
Full‑time Fellowship: Register for a PhD in India and complete the entire program there (up to 4 years).

Structural, Cell & Molecular Biology
Biological Systems & Organisms
Medical & Health Sciences (including Neurosciences)
Chemical Sciences
Engineering Sciences
Astronomy, Space & Earth Sciences
Mathematical Sciences

Who can apply

Must be ≤35 years old by 31 December 2026
Must be a national of a developing country (not India)
Must hold a Master’s degree in science/technology
Must be employed in home country and hold a research assignment
Sandwich Fellowship: Must be registered PhD student in home country + provide “Registration and No Objection Certificate”
Full‑time Fellowship: Must register at an Indian university within the first year
Must secure acceptance letter from a CSIR laboratory/institute
Must provide proof of English proficiency (if prior education not in English)
Must commit to returning to home country after fellowship completion
Must be financially responsible for accompanying family members
