About this opportunity

SAIA, the Slovak Academic Information Agency, runs this Slovak government scholarship for international university students and PhD students who want to spend part of their degree at a university or research institute in Slovakia. Students go for one or two semesters and PhD students for one to ten months, while staying enrolled at their home university. The scholarship pays a monthly allowance for living costs, plus a travel allowance for students and PhD students who request it with their application.

What you get:

620 EUR a month for master's level students, and 1,025.50 EUR a month for PhD students, to cover living costs such as food and accommodation
A one-off travel allowance of up to 1,500 EUR depending on distance from home, paid at the end of the stay with the last monthly payment
Reimbursement of up to 250 EUR for the medical check required for a temporary residence permit, for non-EU, EEA and Swiss citizens staying over 90 days
A study stay of one or two full semesters (students) or a study or research stay of one to ten months (PhD students) at a Slovak university or research institution

What you'll do:

Study at a Slovak host university for a semester or two, typically around 30 ECTS per semester, or carry out study or research linked to your dissertation as a PhD student
Submit an interim report if the stay lasts over six months, and a final report at the end

Applications close 31 October 2026 at 16:00 CET
Original acceptance or invitation letter must reach SAIA in Bratislava by 12:00 noon on the third Slovak working day after the deadline
Results usually within 8 weeks of the deadline
Students: stay starts between 1 February and 1 April 2027 and ends by 31 August 2027
PhD students: stay starts between 1 February and 31 August 2027 and ends by 30 November 2027
Next call: 30 April, for stays in the following academic year

Who can apply

Open to citizens of any country except Slovakia
Students: enrolled at a university outside Slovakia, and either a master's student or someone who has completed at least 2.5 years of university study in the same or a similar programme by the deadline
Students: accepted by a Slovak higher education institution for an academic mobility (study stay) during your degree; all three student conditions must be met
PhD students: doctoral study or training outside Slovakia, and accepted by a Slovak university or eligible research institution such as the Slovak Academy of Sciences
An acceptance or invitation letter from your Slovak host institution, no older than 3 months, must be uploaded with the application, and the original must be delivered to SAIA in Bratislava
Students submit a CV, motivation letter, detailed study programme with subjects and credits, two recommendation letters from university teachers, a confirmation of studies and any bachelor's diploma
PhD students submit a CV, motivation letter, detailed study or research programme, a recommendation letter from their supervisor, a confirmation of PhD studies, master's diploma and a list of publications
Not open to students doing a full degree in Slovakia, to anyone who spent 15 or more months in Slovakia in the 36 months before the deadline, or to anyone funded for the stay by another public programme such as Erasmus+, CEEPUS or the International Visegrad Fund
Past NSP holders can reapply only after at least 2 years
One application per person per call
