S$5,300 a Month NTU PhD Scholarship

Nanyang Technological University in Singapore awards the Nanyang President's Graduate Scholarship (NPGS), its premier PhD scholarship, to outstanding graduates and final-year students starting a full-time PhD. It pays tuition and a monthly stipend for up to four years, carries no bond, and is open to every nationality. There is no separate scholarship form: you apply for a research PhD at NTU and indicate interest in the NTU scholarship, and your school nominates candidates for a university interview.

What you get:

• Monthly stipend of S$5,300 for Singapore Citizens, S$4,800 for Permanent Residents and S$4,300 for international students (rates from January 2026)
• Annual tuition fee covered
• Overseas conference allowance of up to S$5,000 per financial year
• Book allowance of S$500 a year, a one-time IT allowance of S$1,500 and a one-time thesis allowance of S$600
• Priority for campus accommodation
• Tenable for one year at a time and renewable on good progress, up to four years in total
• No bond after the PhD

What you'll do:

• Study full time for a PhD at NTU, carrying out supervised research toward a thesis
• International students take on teaching or laboratory supervision duties under NTU's Graduate Assistantship Programme

Key dates:

• Application period for Academic Year 2027 to 2028: 1 November 2026 to 31 December 2026
• National Institute of Education (NIE) applicants: 2 November 2026 to 30 December 2026
• Admission deadline of 15 November 2026 for the August intake at the School of Art, Design and Media, School of Humanities, School of Social Sciences and Wee Kim Wee School of Communication and Information
• Shortlisted candidates are interviewed; NTU says results come about 3 to 6 weeks after the interview
• Stipend paid from the semester start in August or January

• Apply through NTU's graduate research application portal and indicate interest in the NTU Scholarship; no separate scholarship application is needed
• Documents: identification, degree certificates and transcripts with English translations, research proposal, two referee reports from institutional email addresses, resume, publications and test scores where applicable
• Programmes in the Colleges of Engineering and Science and the Interdisciplinary Graduate Programme also ask for a short video essay
• NTU recommends contacting a potential supervisor before applying; otherwise the school appoints one
• NPGS is for PhD programmes only, not Masters

• All nationalities are eligible
• An Honours (Highest Distinction) or equivalent at Bachelor's level
• Final-year students must provide official confirmation from their university that they are on track to graduate with Honours (Highest Distinction) or equivalent
• Must apply for and be admitted to a full-time PhD at NTU
• Good TOEFL or IELTS score if the Bachelor's degree was not taught in English
• Nomination by the applicant's NTU school, then a university-level interview
