The Loran Scholars Foundation, a Canadian charity running since 1988, will name up to 36 new Loran Scholars this cycle. Each gets a full tuition waiver at one of 25 partner universities, a $12,000 stipend every year for up to four years, funded summer work placements, a mentor and a place in a national community of scholars and alumni, which the Foundation values at about $150,000 in total. Selection looks beyond grades for character, service and leadership, and up to 124 other applicants receive one-time entrance awards of $6,000 or $3,000. **What you get:** - A full tuition waiver every year at one of Loran's 25 partner universities, renewable for up to four years of undergraduate study - A stipend of $12,000 a year - Up to $14,000 for the Summer Experiential Learning Program, with work placements across the public policy, enterprise and community development sectors - A four-year leadership enrichment programme, including skill building and immersive learning in different parts of Canada and abroad - One-on-one mentorship from a business or community leader, plus scholar gatherings and annual retreats - Lifelong membership in a network of Loran Scholars and alumni - If you are not chosen as a scholar: up to 54 finalists receive a one-time $6,000 entrance award, and up to 70 semi-finalists a one-time $3,000 Provincial and Territorial Award, both usable at any accredited public university in Canada - For finalists, all travel and accommodation costs for National Selections in Toronto are covered by the Foundation **What you'll do:** - Apply online in English or French with short answers, short essays, two timed video responses and your transcript, and name one referee who submits a short online reference - If shortlisted, take part in an online semi-final interview; about 250 applicants reach this stage - If you are one of the 90 finalists, attend National Selections interviews in Toronto - As a scholar, study at a partner university, live in residence in first year and independently after that, and keep a B+ (77%) average on a full course load - Take part in mentorship, summer experiential learning and annual community gatherings, and keep growing in service and leadership throughout your degree **Key dates:** - Applications opened September 9, 2026 - Student information webinars on September 16 at 7 pm ET and September 30 at 6 pm ET - Applications and reference forms close October 15, 2026, before 12:00 noon Eastern Time - Online semi-final interviews for shortlisted applicants, November 26 to December 10, 2026 - Semi-final results in the week of December 14, 2026, when 90 finalists are invited to National Selections - Finalists are announced publicly in early January - National Selections interviews in Toronto, February 18 to 21, 2027 - The new class of Loran Scholars is announced in March **More information:** - Eligibility, the application steps and the full timeline are on Loran's How to Apply page and applicant FAQ - The Resources for Schools and Applicants page has webinar registration and recordings, a sample application and an applicant information sheet - Transcripts must be official PDFs from your school, school board or Ministry of Education; report cards, screenshots, Ontario's My Blueprint and IB-only transcripts are not accepted - The language you choose for the application cannot be changed later and carries into your interviews - If connectivity or accessibility stops you applying online, email info@loranscholar.ca to arrange an accommodation or a mailed application - There is no limit on applicants from one school, and school sponsorship is no longer required
