The Democratic Engagement Exchange at Toronto Metropolitan University, in partnership with the Aga Khan Foundation Canada, is hiring 16 paid staff across 4 distinct roles to run the 2026 Youth Leadership Academy. The Academy is a fully funded, 5-day in-person convening that brings together young Canadians from coast to coast to engage with global issues and build their leadership as global citizens. This year it takes place at York University in Toronto from July 26 to August 1, 2026, with an onsite training day on Saturday, July 25. Four open positions: 1. Youth Engagement Leader (Evening and Overnight) — guide and mentor participants, lead evening activities, and ensure a safe, empowering experience after programming hours. 2. Health and Wellness Monitor — manage participant medications, monitor wellbeing, and respond to medical or safety concerns throughout the program. 3. Arrivals and Departures Assistant — coordinate participant arrivals, transitions, and departures across travel days. 4. Logistics Assistant — support the on-the-ground operations that keep the Academy running smoothly. This is a paid staff hire to deliver the program, not the youth participant application (the participant cohort is already closed). Applications are being reviewed on a rolling basis, so apply early. The team welcomes and encourages applications from members of equity-seeking groups, including candidates who are racialized, Indigenous, 2SLGBTQ+, and people with disabilities. Who can apply

  • Applicants must be 25 years of age or older and able to pass a police background check. All staff must be able to be in Toronto for the full program duration (July 25 training day through August 1, 2026), including evenings and overnights for the residential roles. Experience working with youth in educational, leadership, or community engagement settings is valued. Applications are accepted on a rolling basis until June 15, 2026.
