The University of Chicago Harris School of Public Policy runs this 11-month full-time fellowship for recent graduates and early-career people with strong quantitative skills. It is non-degree: you are selected into it and paid, rather than admitted and charged. Fellows spend eight weeks in faculty-led coursework on campus, then nine months embedded in a research centre working on things like educational equity, public safety, health equity and climate. **What you get:** - A $75,000 stipend for living and healthcare expenses - $21,000 covering the fellowship academic credential in full - Eight weeks of faculty-led coursework in research methods, data analytics, economic analysis and analytical politics - A nine-month placement with a host centre such as the UChicago Urban Labs, the Behavioral Insights and Parenting Lab or the Mansueto Institute - One-to-one career coaching, plus targeted employer connections - Mentorship from policy leaders and access to faculty, alumni and practitioners - An alumni community with an annual retreat and support securing junior board placements **What you'll do:** - Complete four faculty-led summer courses: Research Methods, Economic Analysis, Analytical Politics and Data Analytics - Spend nine months inside a host lab on urgent public problems - Apply causal inference, statistical modelling and machine learning to real policy and administrative data - Build reproducible data pipelines and translate findings for technical and non-technical audiences - Deliver a capstone, a real-world data-driven policy initiative addressing a critical public or social sector challenge - Present your capstone to stakeholders, policymakers and future employers **Key dates:** - Applications close 19 October 2026 at 11:59 PM Central Time - The fellowship runs July 2027 to June 2028
