About this opportunity

The Globe and Mail Foundation, the independent journalism charity linked to Canada's national newspaper, is choosing two emerging investigative or political journalists for a six-month, one-on-one mentorship with Robert Fife, the Globe's former Ottawa Bureau Chief. From November 2026 to April 2027, each mentee takes a public-interest reporting project from pitch all the way to publication with his guidance. This is the programme's first cohort.

What you get:

Private virtual mentorship sessions with Robert Fife every two weeks for six months
Editorial feedback on story framing, writing style, interview technique and drafts
Career advice on working with major media outlets and building a professional network
Funding for travel and research, considered case by case where the project needs it

What you'll do:

Bring or develop a focused public-interest reporting project
Take it from pitch through reporting and drafting to final publication
Meet your mentor online every two weeks from November 2026 to April 2027

Who can apply

Must reside in Canada
No more than five years of reporting experience
A strong interest in investigative or political journalism
If employed by a media organisation, a letter of support from your editor
Submit a CV and a letter of interest of no more than 350 words
Two examples of published work
A brief statement of your goals for the mentorship and the reporting project or area you hope to develop
