About this opportunity

Launched in 2024, this grant program supports field-based projects that advance scientific knowledge and environmental or cultural understanding. Projects must include a compelling storytelling component and fall within disciplines such as:

Good to know

  • +Award size is stated on the page: awards typically range from 10,000 to 25,000 US dollars
  • +Rolling intake is explicit with a stated review cadence of spring and fall, so an applicant is never locked out by a missed date
  • +Club membership is not a barrier: you do not have to be a member to apply
  • +The entire application, guidelines and budget rules sit on one public page, so an applicant can see exactly what is required before starting
  • +Eligible disciplines are listed plainly, including exploratory projects revealing new knowledge about the planet
  • +Open globally, with an explicit push to include a local collaborator on the team

Worth checking yourself

  • !Age 21 or over, so under-21s on LOT are not eligible
  • !A serious research grant, not an entry-level opportunity. The application expects a hypothesis and methodology, two letters of recommendation, team CVs and permits in hand
  • !Explicitly excludes pure adventure: projects purely focused on adrenaline sports or physical feats will not be considered
  • !Grant funds do not cover your own salary or your team's
  • !Funding covers no more than one year of fieldwork
  • !The Club takes first media rights and requires advance notification of publication
