EMMIR, the European Master in Migration and Intercultural Relations, is a two-year Erasmus Mundus joint master's run by a consortium of partner universities in Germany, Norway, the Czech Republic, Slovenia, Ghana, Uganda, South Africa and India, coordinated by the University of Oldenburg. For Edition 14 (2027 to 2029), a very limited number of Erasmus Mundus scholarships are awarded on merit, paying 1,400 euros a month for 24 months and waiving the programme's participation costs. Who can apply

  • A completed first degree (such as a Bachelor's) in a field related to migration studies, for example social sciences, history, cultural studies, education, law, economics, development studies or journalism
  • Final grade of at least C+ or equivalent, documented by the 20 December 2026 deadline; scholarship applicants must have finished their degree by then, no exceptions
  • Documented knowledge of migration studies, intercultural relations and empirical methods (modules, papers, essays or exams)
  • Proof of English proficiency by the deadline, unless a waiver applies; native English speakers must show proficiency in a second language relevant to migration studies
  • Not eligible if you have already received an Erasmus Mundus Joint Master scholarship
  • Your last degree should ideally be no older than five years; if it is, explain why in your statement of purpose
  • Open to all nationalities; no exclusions by citizenship
  • Documents needed: passport, CV, statement of purpose (1 to 2 pages), degree diploma and transcript, language proof, and email addresses of referees
