Amref Health Africa and the ARCH Program Consortium, through the Pan-African Center for Research and Policy in Climate Change and Health (CPRCCH), are funding early career researchers in nine Eastern and Southern African countries who already hold climate-and-health data. Each award of up to USD 5,000 pays for turning that existing data into a finished manuscript, policy brief or technical paper within 12 months. Who can apply

  • PhD candidate enrolled in a PhD programme with data collection completed, or a postdoctoral or early career researcher within five years of PhD graduation
  • Must already hold a climate-and-health dataset; applicants still collecting data will not be considered
  • Citizenship or legal residence in Botswana, Ethiopia, Kenya, Malawi, Mozambique, Rwanda, South Africa, Tanzania or Uganda, and currently residing in that country
  • Registered at or affiliated with an eligible institution
  • Able to complete the work within 12 months
  • Must agree to take part in mentorship and learning activities
  • Budget must not exceed USD 5,000 and cannot include salary top-ups, personal allowances, tuition fees, large equipment, unapproved travel or unapproved institutional overheads
