Chevening is the UK government's international scholarships programme, funded by the Foreign, Commonwealth and Development Office (FCDO) and partner organisations. It brings emerging leaders from eligible countries and territories, Canada included, to the UK for a full-time, one-year taught master's at any UK university, paying tuition fees, a monthly living allowance, economy return flights and the visa application. In return, scholars commit to going home for at least two years afterwards to put what they learned to work. **What you get:** - Tuition fees paid for any eligible one-year master's (MBA tuition is capped at £22,000, and you pay anything above that) - A monthly living allowance (stipend) for accommodation and living costs, set at different rates for London and the rest of the UK and reviewed each year - Economy travel to the UK and home again from your country of residence - An arrival allowance, a departure allowance, and a travel top-up allowance for London events if you study outside London - The cost of your UK visa application - Up to £75 towards a tuberculosis test, where your visa requires one - A programme of networking events with other scholars, Chevening alumni, the FCDO, high-profile speakers and partner organisations - A place in the global Chevening alumni network after you graduate **What you'll do:** - Complete the online application: education and work history, three UK master's course choices, two referees, and four essays on leadership, building professional relationships, your first-choice course and your career plan - Apply separately to your three chosen UK courses and secure an unconditional offer from at least one by 17:00 BST on 8 July 2027 - If shortlisted in mid-February 2027, interview in English at a British embassy or high commission between March and April 2027, uploading photo ID, your degree certificate and two reference letters at least seven working days before - Study full time in the UK for up to 12 months from September or October 2027, attending the mandatory Chevening Orientation and Farewell events - Return to your country of award for at least two years after your course ends **Key dates:** - Applications opened 4 August 2026 at 11:00 UTC - Applications close 6 October 2026 at 11:00 UTC - Eligibility sift from October 2026, then independent reading committees assess applications from mid-October 2026 to January 2027 - Interview shortlist in mid-February 2027 - Interviews at British embassies and high commissions, March to April 2027 - Interview results released from June 2027 - Unconditional UK university offer due by 17:00 BST on 8 July 2027 - Studies begin in the UK in September or October 2027 **More information:** - Applying is free. Chevening says you do not need to pay anyone to apply, and it does not endorse or work with third parties who charge for application support or advice. - Extensions to the 6 October deadline are not granted under any circumstances, and an application cannot be changed after it is submitted. - You do not need a university place before applying to Chevening. Choose three courses from the Chevening course finder and apply to each university separately; your Chevening application is not an application to the universities. - Using AI to write your essays is prohibited, and Chevening screens every application for plagiarism and AI-generated content. - Selection: applications are sifted for eligibility, scored by independent reading committees against FCDO, Chevening and regional objectives, and the local British embassy or high commission interviews and selects the final candidates. - Applicants from Commonwealth Small Island Developing States, and from ASEAN member states or Timor-Leste, can opt in to the Chevening SIDS or ASEAN Scholarship inside the same application, which adds extra events in the UK. - Chevening partner awards sometimes go unfilled, and Chevening says applying for one may improve your chances. - Costs you carry yourself: travel and any overnight stay to attend your interview, any university deposit (Chevening will not pay it), travel insurance, graduation costs, and anything for dependants, whom the scholarship does not support. - An embassy or high commission can offer a part award covering tuition only, or the stipend and allowances only, in which case you fund the difference.
