Who can apply

  • A high upper second-class (2:1) honours degree, or the international equivalent, in a relevant scientific subject; applicants with physical science and maths backgrounds are welcome
  • Open to UK and international (EU and non-EU) students; international candidates can receive up to 30 percent of places, about 7 of a cohort of 25
  • English language: IELTS Academic 7.0 overall (Listening, Writing and Speaking 7.0, Reading 6.5) or TOEFL internet 100, if required
  • Two academic or professional references, submitted by the deadline
  • Transcript, CV and short written responses on motivation, innovative thinking, independent study, recent developments in your field, the research process and technical skills
  • A short statement of interest for each project chosen
  • Apply through the University of Cambridge Applicant Portal; the course is listed as BBSRC DTP PhD in Biological Sciences
  • An ATAS certificate is needed for a visa if you receive an offer
