Bloomsbury Academic and Writers & Artists run this fellowship to get an early-career academic's book idea into publishable shape. It is open to UK-based researchers who identify as Black, Asian or Ethnically Diverse. The winner gets a bespoke one-year mentoring programme through 2027, four milestone editorial meetings with a mentor matched to their field, GBP 1,000 in cash, and a half-hour consultation with a literary agent. Your manuscript has to fit a Humanities or Social Sciences theme. What you get: ➤ GBP 1,000 paid at the start of the fellowship year ➤ A bespoke one-year mentoring programme with four milestone editorial meetings and a written report after each ➤ At least one meeting in person at Bloomsbury's London offices where possible ➤ Registration for a UK academic conference attended by Bloomsbury in 2027 ➤ A place on the Writing Non-Fiction five-week online course from Writers & Artists ➤ A 30-minute consultation with a literary agent, including proposal feedback ➤ GBP 250 of Bloomsbury Academic books and a year of the Writers & Artists listings database What you'll do: ➤ Submit a 200-word synopsis explaining how the work educates and inspires within one of the listed themes ➤ Provide a provisional table of contents and a projected word count ➤ Upload a sample extract of 1,000 to 1,500 words ➤ Work with your mentor across four milestone meetings through 2027, submitting writing ahead of each ➤ Develop the manuscript to the point where you can approach publishers
