About this opportunity

AIDS United, a national HIV grantmaker in the United States, is funding about eight local organisations and coalitions to run a nine-month organising and advocacy programme on an HIV policy issue in their state, city, territory or Tribal Nation. Each grantee picks one policy focus, such as Medicaid, PrEP access or HIV decriminalisation, builds a coalition and a base of advocates, and holds a public activation by May 2027, with coaching from AIDS United throughout.

What you'll do:

Choose a primary HIV policy focus and the agency, office or decision-making body that controls it
Write an organising plan with a coalition map, outreach and list-building strategy and activation timeline by February 28, 2027
Hold a public-facing advocacy activation, policy training or community advocacy institute by May 31, 2027
Run documented follow-up organising at about 30, 60 and 90 days, then submit a sustainability plan and final report by August 31, 2027

Who can apply

Lead applicant must be a 501(c)(3) tax-exempt organisation, or a locally rooted organisation or coalition applying through a 501(c)(3) fiscal sponsor with a signed fiscal sponsorship agreement
Must be rooted in and do the work within a US state, the District of Columbia, a US territory, a Tribal Nation or a Tribal community
National and regional organisations must name a local co-lead with real decision-making authority and a share of the budget
Must show financial systems suited to the award (audit, or IRS Form 990, or a letter of explanation)
Must be ready to start on December 1, 2026
People living with HIV must hold meaningful decision-making roles in the project (MIPA)
Grant funds cannot be used for lobbying on specific legislation, medications, direct medical costs or events that have already happened
