The Global Water and Climate Adaptation Centre, a consortium of RWTH Aachen University, TU Dresden, UNU Resource Nexus, the Asian Institute of Technology and IIT Madras, funds two doctoral researchers from developing countries to spend nine months on a research stay in Germany. Scholars are hosted at RWTH Aachen, TU Dresden or UNU Resource Nexus in Dresden, where they carry out part of their PhD research on water security, climate adaptation or ecosystem resilience. The 2027 stay runs from 1 March to 30 November 2027. **What you get:** - €1,200 a month towards accommodation and living expenses - An insurance allowance of up to €105 a month - A one-time travel expense stipend of up to €1,000 - Up to €1,000 for research project materials and equipment through the host institution - A nine-month research stay at RWTH Aachen University, TU Dresden or UNU Resource Nexus in Dresden **What you'll do:** - Spend nine months in Germany carrying out part of your doctoral research at your chosen host institution - Work on a project aligned with the centre's clusters on water security, ecosystem resilience, or transfer strategies for climate adaptation - Contribute to the ABCD-Centre's outreach activities - Submit a mandatory scholarship and experience report three months before the scholarship ends - Submit a scientific draft paper based on your research before the stay ends, which may later become a publication **Key dates:** - Applications close 31 October 2026 - Research stay runs 1 March 2027 to 30 November 2027 **More information:** - Two scholarships are available in this round - Applications go by email to abcd-centre@rwth-aachen.de as a single PDF file, and there is no online form - Priority goes to proposals on water infrastructure modelling and digital twins, innovative monitoring for ecosystem resilience, climate-driven water extremes in urban areas, sustainable business models for unconventional water resources, or eco-friendly materials and building solutions for climate adaptation - Selection is by the ABCD-Centre Steering Committee on academic merit, motivation and proposal quality, with preference for candidates willing to spend the full nine months in Germany and those interested in translating findings into policy papers - Rules of the DAAD and the German Federal Foreign Office apply, and recipients sign a contract with their host institution
