About this opportunity

The fellowship supports early‑career scientists from the Global South (doctoral candidates and postdocs) to conduct research at Senckenberg institutes. Fellows gain access to Senckenberg’s 41 million natural history collections, laboratories, libraries, and expert staff in biodiversity, anthropology, geology, genomics, and conservation ecology.

Benefits include:

Monthly stipend: €1,600 (PhD students) or €2,700 (postdocs)
One‑time travel allowance up to €1,200
Access to Senckenberg’s collections and infrastructure
Collaboration with a scientific host at Senckenberg
Networking with international researchers

Who can apply

Citizenship/residency in a Global South country
Master’s or PhD degree in relevant fields (biodiversity, geology, anthropology, genomics, conservation ecology)
Must not hold parallel project funding during fellowship period
Application includes:
Motivation letter (max. 1 page)
Project description (max. 1 page, co‑developed with Senckenberg host)
Letter of support from Senckenberg host
CV + publication list
Certificates (Master’s and/or PhD)
Optional recommendation letters
Graduate student
