A college sports reporter with her own media platform
Nyla K. Wright runs Ny Scored One, her own sports media platform, built while studying journalism at Florida A&M to give a voice to the underrepresented.
Ny Scored One is a sports media platform run by a college journalist. Nyla K. Wright is a student at Florida Agricultural & Mechanical University and describes herself as "an emerging sports reporter". The platform is her own.
She says it is where you can find "authentic interviews, sports content, and bts of a college journalist." It goes by the same handle, @nyscoredone, on Instagram, TikTok, X and YouTube, and it has a website.
“Never give up. You can accomplish anything you set your mind to!”
Nyla K. Wright
Ny Scored One is, she says, "a space where I can combine my love for sports, storytelling, and media while creating content in my own voice." As a journalism student at Florida A&M University and an emerging sports reporter she has covered FAMU Athletics, interviewed athletes, made social media content and worked hands-on in sports media. There is a podcast, and there are short films. The platform, she says, is used to represent and give voices to the underrepresented.
Building something of her own while still at college has taught her "the importance of being consistent, taking initiative, and creating opportunities instead of waiting for them." She is interested in the many sides of sports media: reporting, interviewing, content creation, communications, branding and production. The goal is to keep growing as a sports journalist and media professional, and to make openings for other people on the way, so that other young people pursue their passions and build their own paths.
