About this opportunity

Young Diplomats of Canada, a non-partisan, youth-led non-profit that has sent Canadian youth delegations to international summits since 2013, is recruiting delegates for three 2027 delegations: the G7 Youth Summit (Y7) in Washington, D.C., the G20 Youth Summit (Y20) in the United Kingdom, and the IMF and World Bank Group Spring Meetings in Washington, D.C. Y7 and Y20 delegates negotiate policy recommendations with youth from other G7 and G20 countries that are presented to leaders; IMF-WBG delegates attend sessions and meet stakeholders. There is no fee to apply or take part, but delegates fund their own travel.

What you get:

  • A seat on a small Canadian delegation: five delegates each for the Y7 and Y20, four for the IMF-WBG Spring Meetings
  • Hands-on training in mediation, negotiation and presentation before the advocacy summits
  • Y7 and Y20 hosts often cover most in-country costs (accommodation, food, local travel), though this is not guaranteed
  • Fundraising support and tools from YDC on request

What you'll do:

  • Y7 and Y20: research, meet experts, consult Canadian youth online, negotiate a communique for G7 or G20 leaders, then advocate for it in Canada (3 to 10 hours a week)
  • IMF-WBG: prepare before the Meetings, then attend sessions and meet stakeholders in Washington (2 to 6 hours a week)
  • Complete a mandatory final report and a second deliverable within about six weeks of the event

Key dates:

  • Applications close November 26, 2026 at 11:59 p.m. Pacific Time
  • Interviews: January 6 to 10, 2027 (slots confirmed by January 2, 2027)
  • IMF-WBG Spring Meetings: April 12 to 18, 2027, Washington, D.C.
  • Y7 Summit: May 10 to 14, 2027, Washington, D.C.
  • Y20 Summit: August 2027, United Kingdom (exact dates to be confirmed)

More information:

  • Delegation details and the apply button are on YDC's Get Involved page
  • Eligibility, time commitment and costs are explained in YDC's FAQs

What you get:

  • A place on a Canadian youth delegation to the Y7 (5 delegates), Y20 (5) or IMF-WBG Spring Meetings (4)
  • Negotiation, mediation and presentation training for advocacy delegates
  • Y7 and Y20 hosts often cover most in-country costs, not guaranteed; travel is the delegate's
  • Fundraising support and tools from YDC on request

What you'll do:

  • Negotiate youth policy recommendations for G7 or G20 leaders (Y7, Y20)
  • Attend IMF and World Bank sessions and meet stakeholders (IMF-WBG)
  • Weekly delegation meetings, research, youth consultations, and a final report plus one more deliverable

Key dates:
