The S.T. Yau High School Science Award (Asia) is a research-based science competition founded by Fields Medalist Professor Shing-Tung Yau and co-organised by the Hong Kong Academy of Sciences, Tsinghua University's Yau Mathematical Sciences Center, and the Chinese University of Hong Kong. Teams of one to three secondary school students submit original research in one of six subject categories. What you get: ➤ Gold Prize of USD 1,000 per category plus a USD 4,000 named special award for each Gold winner ➤ Silver Prize of USD 500 per category, with an extra USD 2,000 award in mathematics ➤ Up to three Honourable Mentions per category and a certificate for every finalist ➤ A place at the YHSA Finale in Beijing for Gold and Silver teams, with prizes up to RMB 100,000 ➤ Limited airfare support for shortlisted teams travelling from Asian cities outside Hong Kong ➤ Exposure to academics and an alumni track record into Tsinghua, Harvard, MIT, and Princeton What you'll do: ➤ Form a team of one to three students from the same school with a supervising teacher ➤ Register online by 11 June 2026 ➤ Submit a two-page English research outline by 15 June 2026 ➤ Submit a full English research report by 17 August 2026 if shortlisted ➤ Attend the in-person oral defense in Hong Kong in October or November 2026 The 2026 cycle covers Hong Kong and Asia outside Mainland China and welcomes secondary students of any nationality studying in the region. Categories span Mathematics, Physics, Biology, Chemistry, Computer Science, and Economic and Financial Modeling. Participation is free, but commercial training services and concurrent submissions are grounds for disqualification.
