Good to know

  • +Between EUR 500 and EUR 3,000, covering up to the full cost of an eligible trip, and seventy percent is paid to you before you travel rather than reimbursed afterwards.
  • +Free to apply, and the costs it reimburses include visa fees and conference registration.
  • +It funds real mobility: going somewhere in the region for research, cultural exchange or professional development.
  • +The Western Balkans Fund is an intergovernmental body of the six Western Balkans governments, and it publishes results from previous rounds.
  • +The full guidelines document sets out exactly what is eligible before you commit time to applying.

Worth checking yourself

  • !It closes at midday on 5 October, not at the end of the day. Their guidelines say 12:59 and their announcement graphics say 13:00 local time, so treat the morning of the 5th as your last chance.
  • !The entry requirements are stricter than the announcement suggests. You need citizenship AND residency in one of the six countries, to be 18 or over, to be a student or working professional, to have no criminal record, to work in English, and to hold an invitation letter from a host institution.
  • !That invitation letter is compulsory, so you need a host lined up before you apply.
  • !Open to Albania, Bosnia and Herzegovina, Kosovo, Montenegro, North Macedonia and Serbia only.
