About this opportunity

The Volcker Alliance, the nonprofit founded by former Federal Reserve chairman Paul Volcker, runs GovReady to help young people find their way into government work. This award pays a $3,000 stipend to a student or recent graduate who has already secured an internship with a local, state or federal government office in the United States. It exists because public sector internships are so often unpaid or low paid that students who need an income cannot take them.

What you get:

A $3,000 stipend, paid to you rather than to your internship employer
A place in that semester's cohort of award recipients, with a virtual check in
Your headshot and biography featured by the Volcker Alliance

What you'll do:

Complete the government internship you secured for yourself
Sign an acknowledgement letter and complete a W9 form once selected
Join a virtual check in with the other recipients from your semester
Complete an exit survey at the end of the internship

Key dates:

Fall applications opened June 1, 2026 and close September 14, 2026
Spring applications open October 16, 2026 and close November 20, 2026
Summer applications open February 23, 2027 and close April 17, 2027
Decisions roughly three weeks after each deadline, with funds paid within about a month of the decision

Worth checking yourself

!It funds an internship you have already secured. It does not find or place you in one, so line up the internship first.
!United States only.
!The two pages describing it disagree slightly on who qualifies: one says anyone, the other suggests it is for people who have been through a Volcker Alliance programme. Worth an email to them before you spend time on the application.

LOT finds and checks opportunities from public sources. Always confirm details on the organiser’s own page before applying.
