Good to know

  • +Funded by a Belgian public body, running for years with named university partners
  • +Covers tuition, flights, insurance and living costs for the full programme
  • +VLIRUOS FAQ states no application fee; KU Leuven and IOB Antwerp confirm the fee is waived or not charged
  • +Every programme's dates are published on the organisers' pages

Worth checking yourself

  • !Each programme has its own deadline. We show 1 February 2027, the date most programmes share, but Tropical Biodiversity and Ecosystems closes 30 November 2026, Applied Computer Science 15 January 2027 and Hotel Management 31 January 2027. Aquaculture and Nutrition and Food Systems stay open to 28 February 2027. Check your programme's page.
  • !Only nationals of 25 countries who also live in one of them can apply: Benin, Bolivia, Burkina Faso, Burundi, Cameroon, Cuba, DR Congo, Ecuador, Ethiopia, Guinea, Indonesia, Kenya, Madagascar, Morocco, Mozambique, Niger, Palestine, Peru, Philippines, Senegal, South Africa, Tanzania, Uganda, Vietnam and Zimbabwe.
  • !VLIRUOS's call page says Mali was recently added, but its own country list still names 25 countries without Mali. Applicants from Mali should confirm with VLIRUOS before applying.
  • !The 1,400 EUR monthly allowance is not all spending money: depending on the university, you pay tuition, insurance and housing out of it, or the university deducts them first.
  • !VLIRUOS pays no extra for optional activities such as field trips, and flights home during summer breaks are your own cost.
  • !You apply through the university, so its own admission requirements apply, including English test results; some countries need documents legalised at a Belgian embassy. VLIRUOS says ICP programmes charge no application fee.
  • !Scholarship amounts can change with Belgian government funding decisions.
