About this opportunity

The United Nations Institute for Disarmament Research (UNIDIR), the UN's Geneva based policy institute on disarmament and security, is recruiting four Graduate Professionals for six month, full time placements across two of its research programmes. Two posts sit in the Conventional Weapons Programme, working on preventing armed conflict and armed violence, and two in the Security and Technology Programme, one on its science, technology and innovation workstream and one on horizon scanning of new science and technology for its Watchtower project. Every post can be done remotely and pays a stipend of USD 750 a month, which UNIDIR describes as a contribution to living expenses; one Security and Technology post can also be done in person in Geneva for USD 1,500 a month.

What you get:

What you'll do:

  • Conventional Weapons (two posts): background research and analysis, helping plan and run meetings, workshops, conferences and field missions, and communicating with project partners
  • Security and Technology, science, technology and innovation workstream: helping develop and share research outputs, organising meetings and workshops, drafting documents and supporting outreach

  • Both Security and Technology posts close 11 November 2026 at 11:59 p.m. Geneva time

Who can apply

  • Enrolled in a graduate school programme (second university degree or equivalent, or higher), or graduated and able to start within one year of graduating
