About this opportunity

The United Nations Population Fund is the UN agency for sexual and reproductive health, working in more than 150 countries. This roster is the single entry point for UNFPA internships in 2026, covering headquarters in New York as well as regional and country offices, with the duty station listed as Multiple. UNFPA teams select interns competitively from the roster as their needs arise, so one application puts a student in front of every office that recruits from it during the year.

What you get:

A stipend towards living expenses for interns who do not receive financial support from a university, government or other third party, normally paid in local currency at the end of each month
Direct exposure to UNFPA operations, designed to complement development-oriented studies with practical experience
Work under the supervision of a UNFPA staff member, with your background matched to the needs of the office
Consideration by UNFPA teams across headquarters, regional and country offices from a single application

What you'll do:

Join a UNFPA office as an intern when a team selects your profile from the roster
Work full time on the assignment agreed with the hiring office, which may be at a duty station or remote

Key dates:

Roster posted 16 January 2026
Applications close 31 December 2026 at 23:59 New York time

More information:

Eligibility, financial support and UNFPA's no-fee disclaimer are set out on the roster listing at unfpa.org
UNFPA only accepts applications submitted through its Quantum careers system
Interns arrange their own accommodation, travel and medical insurance

Worth checking yourself

!A roster is not an offer. You go into a pool and a team has to pick you, so being accepted onto it does not guarantee a placement.
!The stipend is a contribution towards living costs, not a salary, and UNFPA does not publish the amount. It is reduced if you already receive funding from a university or government.
!You arrange and pay for your own accommodation, travel and medical insurance.
!You need to have completed at least one year of a first degree, or be on a postgraduate programme, or have graduated within the last year.
!You are not eligible if a parent, child or sibling works for UNFPA.
