The Pierre Elliott Trudeau Foundation funds doctoral students in the humanities and social sciences whose research speaks to the big questions facing Canada and the world. Scholars receive up to $50,000 a year for three years towards tuition and living costs, plus up to $20,000 a year for research and travel, and join a community of Mentors, Fellows and more than 500 alumni through the Foundation's leadership programme. **What you get:** - Up to $50,000 per year for three years to cover tuition and living expenses - Up to $20,000 per year for three years for research, networking and travel related to your doctoral work - Mentorship from leaders outside academia, with masterclasses, seminars and field experiences - Membership of a multidisciplinary community of Scholars, Mentors and Fellows - Lifelong membership of an alumni network of more than 500 people **What you'll do:** - Pursue your PhD research aligned with one of the Foundation's four themes: Human Rights and Dignity, Responsible Citizenship, Canada and the World, People and their Natural Environment - Take part in the Foundation's meetings, masterclasses, seminars and field experiences - Attend the Summer School, which trains Scholars and welcomes each new cohort - Join the annual Mentors-Scholars Retreat and work with a Mentor over a three-year term - Share your knowledge beyond academia through the Foundation's public policy events **Key dates:** - September 1, 2026: eligibility verification form opens - October 2, 2026: deadline to submit an eligibility verification request - Weeks of October 5 and October 12, 2026: mandatory information sessions - October 30, 2026 at 9:00 a.m. ET: deadline for all three references to be received - November 6, 2026 at 4:00 p.m. ET: deadline to submit the complete application **More information:** - The application has two steps: first a short eligibility screening form, then the full application form once eligibility is confirmed - Applications that do not meet the eligibility criteria will not be reviewed - You may apply in English or French, in one language only, and need to communicate effectively in either - The scholarship amount is adjusted for other awards you hold, but every Scholar receives at least $25,000 of the annual stipend and the full $20,000 allowance - Scholars may work part-time, up to 20 hours per week, while holding the scholarship - Questions: scholarship2027@trudeaufoundation.ca
