Tech Policy Press is a nonprofit media venture covering the intersection of technology and democracy. Who can apply

  • Open to journalists, researchers, lawyers and public policy professionals interested in the intersection of technology and democracy
  • Designed for mid career applicants with a demonstrated interest or background in tech policy, media or a related field
  • Open to applicants from around the world, including candidates outside the USA who are not authorised to work in the USA
  • Applicants need a strong background in a specific tech policy area, a particular geography, or technology and its impact on democracy or society
  • All fellows work remotely as independent contractors
  • Application requires a CV or resume, a cover letter of no more than two pages, links to prior publications and two professional references
  • Published work must be publicly accessible, open access and clearly attributed to you, published within the past three years, with at least one piece in English and at least one solo authored
  • Social media posts, unpublished material such as class assignments or dissertations, and pre print papers are not accepted
  • Applications substantially or completely composed by generative AI are not accepted, and any AI use must be disclosed
  • Mid career journalists, researchers, lawyers and public policy professionals anywhere in the world who want a year of support and editorial mentorship to work on a pressing, underreported technology issue. Tech Policy Press encourages applicants from the Global Majority and from communities underrepresented in media, and says it is particularly interested in projects that centre communities and regions often excluded from global tech policy conversations.
