Society for Science has run the Science Talent Search since 1942, and it is the oldest science research competition for high school seniors in the United States. Who can apply

  • In your final year of secondary school (public, private, parochial, charter or home school), not yet graduated, and never entered the STS before
  • Any citizenship, if you are enrolled in secondary school and live full time in the United States, Puerto Rico, Guam, the US Virgin Islands, American Samoa, Wake Island, Midway Island or the Marianas
  • Or a US citizen in your final year at a Department of Defense Dependents School, an accredited overseas American or international school, or a foreign school as an exchange student or because your parents are working abroad (proof of citizenship and school accreditation required)
  • Non-US citizens at American schools abroad are not eligible
  • Over 13 with parental or guardian consent, or aged 18 to 20, or an emancipated minor over 13
  • Individual research only; team projects, split team projects, idea-only projects and literature reviews are not eligible
