About this opportunity

NASA's Office of STEM Engagement runs paid internships at NASA centers across the United States, and applications for the Spring 2027 session are open now. Interns spend 15 weeks on a real agency project alongside a NASA mentor, in fields running from aerospace engineering and data science through to communications, budget analysis and public affairs. Applying is open to US citizens aged 16 and over who are enrolled college students, and a single application can be considered for projects at multiple centers.

What you get:

A paid stipend for the majority of interns, set by academic level and how long the session runs
Fifteen weeks working on a live NASA project under the guidance of a NASA mentor
A placement at one of NASA's centers around the United States
Technical skills and career readiness competencies that NASA builds into the programme
One application that can be put forward for projects at multiple centers and areas of interest

What you'll do:

Work on a real NASA project picked from the session's live listings, of which 140 internship projects were open in the portal on September 6, 2026
Work typical hours of 8 a.m. to 5 p.m., Monday to Friday, unless the project description states otherwise
Take part in a phone or video interview with the project mentor in many cases, though NASA does not require one
Attend a NASA center or facility for fingerprinting and identity verification if you are selected
