Who can apply

  • Must be a United States citizen. NASA states applicants MUST be US citizens to be eligible, and every open internship listing in the portal carries a US Citizen Only tag
  • Must be a minimum of 16 years of age at the time of application, with no exceptions
  • Must have a cumulative GPA of 3.0 on a 4.0 scale
  • Must be a full-time or part-time college student, undergraduate through graduate level
  • Must be enrolled in a degree granting programme at a US Department of Education accredited college or university, with a course of study aligned to NASA's needs
  • Educators are eligible to apply if they are enrolled as a student
  • Applicants who have completed an undergraduate degree and are enrolled in graduate school the following semester are eligible during the gap period
  • Students who have graduated may apply for internships taking place in the three sessions immediately following their graduation
  • Letters of recommendation are not required, and there is no resume upload; experience is entered directly into the application form
  • College students in the United States, from undergraduate freshman through to graduate doctoral level, in both STEM and non-STEM majors. NASA states it offers internships for non-STEM majors, so business, communications, human resources and finance students are in scope. Educators are also eligible if they are enrolled as a student.
